     Moses

Learning Objectives After completing this lesson, the children will learn that God protects us and has a plan for each of our lives.

Introduction: The Hebrews

As God had said, Abraham's descendants lived as slaves in Egypt for 400 years. At the time, Egypt was a military superpower that had conquered many countries and enslaved their peoples. At that time, the children of Israel suffering there as slaves were called Hebrews. God let His beloved chosen people go through trials for four hundred years in order to raise them up by strengthening their faith.

Lesson #1:   Moses the chosen one

As the number of Hebrew slaves in Egypt gradually increased, the King of Egypt (called the Pharaoh) became alarmed and ordered all newborn male Hebrews to be killed, but babies girls could live.

An Hebrews mother gave birth to a third child, a boy who came to be named Moses. Moses remained in his family's house until the age of three months.

Because they could no longer keep Moses secretly, his mother placed him in a basket, and made it float on the Nile river.  The baby was discovered among the bushes by an Egyptian princess, who decided to adopt and raise him as her own child. Realizing that the princess would need a nurse to care for the baby, Miriam (Moses' sister) introduced her mother to her (without telling the princess that she was in reality Moses' mother.)

So while receiving the education of a prince in the palace, Moses was also educated by his mother about God's heart and will.
