Lesson on "Restoration of the heart"

Love God / Love Others

Resource website: For activities, games, art craft, recipes and lessons.

Note: As you ask questions, make sure you give the children enough time to come up with their own answers!  Write their answers on a whiteboard (if possible).

Isaiah 46:11 God said, "I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it"

“Today we are going to talk about Heavenly Father’s plan to fix the world, but first of all, I want to ask you what you think today’s memory verse means?”

“What does “I will bring it to pass” mean in the verse?  Can you think of another way to say the same thing? “ (Possibly “I will make it happen.”)

“What does “I have purposed” mean in the verse?  Can you think of another word for purposed?” (Possibly, “determined.”)

“Well, now we know that Heavenly Father is determined to do something.  But What?  What is “IT?”

(Continue discussing until the children understand that “it” is fixing or restoring the world.)

After discussion, introduce next idea:

“Why does Heavenly Father need to fix the world?”

Adam and Eve fell.

“When Adam and Eve fell, what was broken?”

Their relationship with God  (The First Blessing);

Love one another (The Second Blessing);

Their ability to be good caretakers for the creation (The Third Blessing).

‘What else happened when Adam and Eve fell?”

Mankind became part of Satan’s family.

“So, to fix the world, what does Heavenly Father have to do?”

He has to fix the Tree Blessings and bring everyone back to His family.

“How does Heavenly Father do that?  Who does He need to help him?”

Messiah

“How does the Messiah help Heavenly Father?”

 He brings people back to Heavenly Father’s Family by Blessing them.  Also, he fixes The Three Blessings.

HEAVENLY FATHER’s PLAN TO FIX THE WORLD

“But there is a problem! Can Heavenly Father just send the Messiah whenever He wants to?”

NO

“Before the Messiah can come, people must get ready for him. (Elaborate on it about why that is).

People are ready for the Messiah when they LOVE GOD (Foundation of Faith) and they LOVE OTHERS (Foundation of Substance).”

Ask: “What does it means to LOVE GOD? How do we express our love for God?” (Discuss it.)

“What does it mean to LOVE OTHERS? How do we express our love for others?” (Discuss it.)

Activity:   Heart game

Playing card sheet #1                               Playing card sheet #2

Copy the playing cards onto heavy paper ; 67 pounds (one sheet by 2 players), glue the sheet # 1 to the sheet #2 (back of the card. Cut out the cards and shuffle them thoroughly. (They may be laminated if you wish.)

The game is played very much like Old Maid.  Everyone needs to sit in a circle, and then we will deal out all of the cards.  As soon as you get your cards, you need to look for pairs.  You have a pair when you have one card say LOVE GOD and the other card says LOVE OTHERS.  There is no “pair” for the SELFISH HEART cards! (This is our “Old Maid” card in this game. However, there is more than one!) After everyone has removed all of the existing pairs in their hand the play begins.

The first person must choose a card from the person to his/her right. (Do not peek!) If the card chosen makes a pair with one of the cards in the player’s hand, he/she may remove the pair from his/her hand.  If it doesn’t make a pair, then the card is just added to his/her hand. Whether or not the player is able to make a pair with the chosen card, his/her turn is over and the person to his/her left now takes a turn.  Continue playing going clockwise around the circle so that everyone gets to play.

To be a winner in this game, you need to make pairs out of all of your cards and have no cards remaining in your hand.”

Players with SELFISH HEARTS at the end of the game lose! (Sorry!!!).”
