| Lesson on "John the Baptist" |
John the Baptist was a prophet who prepared the Jews for Christ’s teachings by teaching repentance, or turning away from sin, and baptism.
VocabularyExplain those two
concepts to the children.
Baptism: Being immersed in
water for the remission of sins. The water symbolizes purity. Repent: To feel regret, sorry for the wrong and seek to change and turn away from wrong. |

Repent Game:
Versions of Simon Says to demonstrate that repent means to turn around.
Have students stand while you read the following verses. Have them turn around 180 degrees each time they hear the word repent. Matt 4:17 From then on Jesus began to
preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is
near. Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Each of you
must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the
gift of the Holy Spirit. Luke 13:5
and I tell you
again that unless you repent, you will perish,
too. Rev 2:5
Look how far
you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you
don’t repent, I will come and remove your lamp stand from its place among
the churches. Acts 17:30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.” |
"John Says" Game:
In the lines below, if it starts
by John says, they turn around first and then do it. If it doesn't start
by John Says, they don't turn around. John says

says hop once on your right foot. John says raise your hands
Sit down John says shake your head John says sit down Stand up John says stand up John says turn around! Touch your nose John says wave your right hand Pat your stomach John says "Sunday school
